And my three sons are hoping for a snow day, so we can sleep in and then go sledding! I won't lie, I am too! lol. Anyhoo...before I go sledding, let me share my newest project. I've been wanting to create a home decor piece for a while now. So, over our holiday break I finally sat down and created this 12x12" piece that I could either scrapbook, put on a canvas, or frame it. I started with these two gorgeous stamps from Eat Cake Graphics. Go check out their whole collection. They are all beautifully detailed. I stamped the house on white cardstock first, as to center it, then stamped the lake shoreline stamp twice on each side of the house to create the scene. Sprinkled it in metallic gold embossing powder, and heat set, to make it warm and inviting.
I used glossy accents to create 3D glass windows. Click the smaller pictures above for more detailed instructions. Once dry, I colored the windows with Copic markers to create warmth. Added some icicle glitter glue and shaved ice to really make it snowy all over. Tore the bottom edge, border punched the top with more snowflakes, adhered to blue snowflake paper, and then adhered the whole piece to this lighter 12x12 snowflake paper. Cut out a matching tag and adhere with a border at the bottom of the page. All the papers are from the same kit, which is great, because they all coordinate, and have coordinating stickers and tags too. I love kits! I added stickers for the title, the large white snowflake border, and wintery words on the bottom. Adhered a few navy metal shimmery snowflakes. And scattered some adhesive rhinestones all over to make it sparkle some more. I hope I've inspired you to use your craft supplies in a different way. Enjoy the snow...we will! ~Kim Supplies: Eat Cake Graphics Stamps: 6040-Q, 52 Winters Lane (house) and 7068-P, Lake shoreline; Echo Park Wintertime paper kit & stickers; Fiskars Snowflake border punch or edger; Ranger Stickles icicle glitter glue and green xmas stickles on wreath; Shaved ice; Copic markers; Glossy accents; Glue painters tape; Creative Impressions blue metal snowflakes; Adhesive rhinestones; Versamark clear watermark ink; Ranger super fine detail metallic gold embossing powder; and a Heat gun. Would you believe this handmade gift card holder album is made from toilet rolls? Well...it is! As you see, I made five holders attached with a D ring and tied on some coordinating ribbon. I can't take credit for this idea, so I want to thank my friend Cynthia for first introducing me to this project. I love it and use it all the time throughout the year. You can find lots of toilet roll projects on Pinterest and Bo Bunny just posted a toilet roll project today too. See how I made this gift card holder album below...
A treat box for any occasion, right at your fingertips, even your kids will be excited to help too! Punch out nine circles with a 3" scallop circle punch and fold each circle in half. Take two circles, match them up, glue dot each side ( I used about 3 glue dots on each side), and repeat until you have a complete circle. You could use staples or eyelets and thread ribbon to hold the circles together too. Take your last circle, which will be the bottom circle, and hot glue your attached circles around the bottom edges and place on the bottom circle for stability. Hold in place until it cools and add "thanks" stickers. I added a sandwich baggie full of treats, tied a metallic ribbon around it, and added a gift card for one of my kids teachers. And there you have a fast, little project for Halloween treats, thank you gifts, holiday gifts, and so much more! Supplies: Echo Park "The Apothecary Emporium" printed paper Graphic 45 "Olde Curiosity Shoppe" Alphabet Sticker sheet 3" scallop circle punch by Marvy Uchida Glue dots small Hot Glue Gun I made a quick St. Patrick's Day card for my twin niece and nephew's to commemorate their first green holiday! Very simple card with shamrock washi tape, American Crafts ribbon, a heart punch, gems, and a pipe cleaner. Voila! I punched out six heart punches: three from solid green cardstock and three from a printed green paper. I chose a paper that had an embossed raised sparkle to it, so I wouldn't need to add any stickles glitter glue. Adhere the solid green heart punches in a shamrock shape. Fold the printed heart punches in half, then apply a thin line of adhesive and attach directly on top of the solid green heart punches. Pinch for a 3D effect. Roll up a pipe cleaner and attach with glue dots. Add a couple gems and you have a quick and simple card. Here are some of my favorite creations using Graphic 45 Paper Collections, multiple techniques and layers. See the Gallery for more designs and details.
Spring is slowly approaching and makes me think of my two babies born this time of year. I thought I would share this adorable baby shower invitation I created for my sisters twin baby shower. She always said she'd get pregnant "when pigs fly." So, this is where the theme originated. She found these adorable stamps with the exact sentiment she wanted, these adorable pigs with wings, the barn, and the field by There She Goes Again stamps. I stamped on printed paper, cut each piece out and pieced together to create the front of our postcard invitation. My sister was having boy/girl twins, so I chose pink and blue printed papers for the pigs and added stickles glitter glue to the wings for some sparkle. Flip over the invitation and this is what the back looks like. Sorry, I had to "X" out some info for privacy, but you can see I did some paper piecing here too. I love the pink gingham and the blue polka dotted printed papers. The blue paper also had these adorable animal babies at the bottom of the paper. So, I wanted to make sure I included them too. I felt the back needed more pink, so I added a 1" strip of the pink gingham paper and used scallop decorative scissors to add an adorable scalloped edge to the top. I then scanned the entire front and back designs into my computer so I could add the text to the invitation. Tip: Once I had everything laid out we sent the invitation to an online printer to mass produce. You certainly can print from home, but I really like Vistaprint.com as they gave me a great price for 100 invitations, included the envelopes, and matching address labels. Happy Presidents Day! The sun is shining, no school today, my boys are outside playing, and I'm feeling crafting. Today I'd like to share with you a cup of tea...Jillibean Soup style. I cut the tea cup from a Slice design cartridge from the Jillibean Soup paper collection. Tip: I masked off the top, bottom, and the handle with blue painters tape. My favorite tape for masking or holding down thin die cuts! It won't stick to your paper or anything. Very easily removed. I colored in the top, bottom, and handle with a gold leaf paint pen; added red pearl gems; and foam dots to pop it up. Tip: I love to re-purpose my tools and use them in different ways. On this card I used scallop decorative scissors and a handle hole punch for the bottom paper strip, but you could easily use any scallop border punch from Fiskars or EK Success too! Then I cut out the month April from the Jillibean Soup paper collection. I chose April for Spring and to give as an upcoming Anniversary card or birthday card. I wanted to make it look like a tea bag with twine and a staple for a 3D effect. You don't always have to craft things flat. It's fun to give your projects some dimension and to mix and match your tools and see what you can create. What are you doing today? I create a perpetual calendar every year and just reprint the new months on colored cardstock with the new dates, birthdays, holidays, etc...for the new year. So, I can always use the same calendar base and title pages and just replace the cardstock with the new monthly dates. Tip: I created my calendar on MS Publisher, but you can use any word document. I save mine so I can use it year after year and just change the numbers, holidays, clip art, etc...to update it for the new year. I took an old calendar that had thick pages and a spiral binding, which was great for flipping to the next month. I use a bone folder to lift off the previous years pages. Or you could use un-do, that works great too. Tip: Un-do is the best product for getting off stickers or anything with an adhesive backing. It neutralizes the sticker for you to take it off and when it dries it's sticky again to reuse on something else. I love it for scrapbook pages when I change my mind. Or getting off stickers from my kids furniture. I use "green" repostionable adhesive to easily take off last years pages and adhere this years pages. As you can see, I like to use different colors with each month and match the holiday or season. I added clear calendar stickers for my months, clip art, and die cuts to each page. I adhered some of them with my Xyron sticker maker. My calendar goes from January to January so it gives me a month to create my next calendar. |
