Polka Dot Orchard + Happy Birthday Gnome Card

Happy Leap Year Birthday Gnomies!!! Kim here from My Kraft Kloset sharing a darling gnome card for this special occasion, that only happens every 4yrs! Today I used these cute "Caroling Gnomes" set for our main image with some paper piecing. And a sentiment from the "Birthday Chick" set by Polka Dot Orchard digital stamps. I love mixing and matching sets and finding the versatility in my products to use all year long. As you would think this gnome set is mainly for the holidays, but you will see they are adorable for birthdays too!

I use WPS Free Office document program to copy and paste Polka Dot Orchard digital images, to layer, move them around, and resize them to fit on my card. Once I have the images where I want them, I usually group them as one piece and save as a “new” document in the same file as my original stamp set, for future use. Then I printed on my HP printer using white cardstock from HL, using the thin brand. And printed another three more times on 6x6 patterned papers too!

Next I fussy cut two different hats, a beard, and a mustache from the patterned papers and adhered to our image on white cardstock using Tombow Multi liquid glue. This is called paper piecing. And it's so fun to use up your scraps or favorite pattern papers.

I colored the rest of the images with alcohol markers. And brushed Distress Inks around the edges with a blending brush to give it an outdoorsy look.

Then using a die cutting machine, I cut out the the image panel with a stitched circle die. And cut out a musical banner from Papertrey Ink patterned paper with a stitched banner die too!

Now let's put the card together...
I started with a sturdy quality gray cardstock 8.5-x11,” I like Papertrey Ink cardstock, folded in half, and trimmed down to 4.5x6.” And adhered a piece of 4x6” AC textured black cardstock to the card base.

Wrap bakers twine around the musical banner and tie in a knot and adhere to the black panel. And adhere the circle image to black panel. Added little adhesive heart gems to the card. And added a touch more sparkle to the music notes at the top of our image with a clear glitter pen to complete this darling birthday card your gnomie is going to love!

Tutorial: I love Polka Dot Orchards digital stamps, because when you download them, their sizes aren’t restricted. Which means you can make them any size you want. And in this case I made an extra copy of the cardinal and flipped it, so I had two birds facing each other. And I saved this reversed bird in my stamp file with this set on my pc, in case I want to use it again in the future. I use a WPS Free Office program to copy and paste my digital images. It allows me to layer and group digital images as one piece, by moving them around, or bringing images forward and back behind images. Once I have the grouped images where I want them, I save them in the file too, and print on my HP printer using white cardstock from HL, using the thin brand. Polka Dot Orchard + Masculine Valentines Card

Hi everybody!!! Kim here sharing a masculine Valentines Day card using the "He Said Coffee" set for our main image, background, and sentiment. Plus another sentiment from "Lollipop Love" all by Polka Dot Orchard digital stamps. It's a wonderful set so great for all kinds of projects. And if you don't do Valentines, then this set is awesome for Father's Day or Birthday cards too!

How I made this card...

I use a WPS Free Office program to copy and paste Polka Dot Orchard digital images. It allows me to layer digital images to create one piece, by moving them around, or bringing images forward and back behind images. Once I resized them to fit on our card and had the images where I wanted them, I printed on my HP printer using white cardstock from HL, using the thin brand. And print two sets of sentiments (one for the front and the other for the inside)

I colored the image with a combination of Spectrum Noir alcohol markers, Prismacolor colored pencils and Gamsol, to get the right color scheme I wanted. And brushed Distress Inks around the edges with a blending brush. Because who doesn't love a guy in pink, wearing an apron, serving coffee? Right?

Then using a die cutting machine, I cut out the the image panel with a stitched rectangle die. And set aside, as I made our card base.

Next I took an 8.5x11" kraft cardstock, folded in half to create our card base. Then using a die cutting machine again, I cut out a piece of striped patterned paper with an Edgers Confetti Cuts die, and adhered to card base with arrow pointing to the left. But I changed my mind and flipped the striped panel and made the arrow pointing to the right.

Cut a strip of red cardstock and adhere to card. Took a red paper doily, cut in half, and adhered to card. Trimmed down the kraft card base. Cut and adhered a gray satin ribbon across the center. Adhered our main man image panel over that ribbon and doily to card. Cut a second piece of ribbon, tie in a bow, and adhere to card. As shown below...

Then take those sentiments we printed earlier and hand sketch brown lines around the first line of one of the sentiments, cut it out, and adhere to front of card. Take the second sentiment (without the first line) adhere to inside of card. Adhere embellishment hearts leftover from another project, but any heart stickers, punches, or die cuts would work too. Added a touch of clear glitter pen to the coffee mug and hearts for a touch of sparkle to complete this handsome, sexy, sassy card. So fun, right???

Our theme for this months Blog Hop is...Monochromatic!
Which means the creation of something made from one color hue or one color family. Fun, right? Well, I'll tell you, this was quite challenging for many of us. It's really hard to just stick to one color family and not add black or some other color, as we love all colors and pretty patterned paper. Shown above are the purple and red color palettes I chose to work with this month. Pretty, right?

My first card is a pretty passionate purple beauty...great for any occasion!

TUTORIAL: I started with an 8.5x11” piece of purple cardstock, folded in half and set aside. I used an A2 white watercolor cardstock. (I know, I finally used watercolor cardstock (lol) And I know it will shock you, but I don’t have a fancy media mat, and that’s ok, so I ink up the clear lid to my MISTI stamping tool when I want to do some “ink smooshing.” It works just fine. Today I stamped down two different purple oxide inks and spritzed with water mist and ran a Q-tip through it to get some variations. Then dragged my cardstock through the colors. Dabbing the cardstock back and forth, here and there, in a triangle like pattern. Heat setting between layers and dabbing back through the colors, until I achieved the desired look I wanted. And heat set again until completely dry or overnight. Wipe up the MISTI with baby wipes or paper towels and it cleans up nicely. Next place the butterfly stamp in the center of the purple panel and attach to MISTI lid. Brush over panel with a static buddy to eliminate embossing powder sticking where you don’t want it. Which is also why you want to make sure your purple panel is completely dry, because embossing powder will stick to oxide ink. And we don’t want that. Then ink up the butterfly stamp with clear embossing ink. Sprinkle with purple embossing powder, and heat set. Using a die cutting machine and a border die cut, I cut the bottom of the purple panel, and set aside. I used a scrap piece of vellum, using the MISTI, I stamped a sentiment, from the same kit, with one of the purple oxide inks, clear embossing powder, and heat set. Trimmed into a banner. Then took a scrap piece of purple polka dot paper and adhered to our cardbase. Adhered our sentiment. And adhered our purple butterfly panel to our card. Trimmed down the card base. And added a few purple glitter enamel dots for some bling to complete this royal purple beauty.

My second card is a fiery red beauty in honor of Valentines or my single gal pals for Galentines Day or any occasion!

TUTORIAL: I started with an 8.5x11” piece of red cardstock, folded in half and set aside. Repeat the same “ink smooshing” techniques as our purple panel above, except I used a red and pink distress oxide inks. Heat red panel until dry or overnight. Using the MISTI tool I stamped the mandala image three times with red oxide ink and heat set. It's an older stamp from 2016 and I've never used it. So, it was time for some love. Using an acrylic block I stamped a heart background with the tattered rose distress ink (not oxide ink), I spray misted the stamp and stamped it onto our red panel in the top right corner, the left middle, and the bottom right corner. Dab off excess water. And heat set. To give our panel some depth and interest. Using a die cutting machine and a border die cut, I cut the left side of the red panel, and set aside. I used a scrap piece of vellum, using the MISTI, I stamped a sentiment from another kit, with clear embossing ink, sprinkled with red embossing powder, and heat set. You could certainly use the red oxide ink and clear embossing powder too. I just wanted to try this red embossing powder on vellum. Trimmed vellum to fit across the red panel. Trimmed a red and pink striped patterned paper and adhered to the card base. Adhered the red panel to card. Adhered vellum sentiment on both ends and attached to red panel and concealed adhesive with red glitter enamel dots and for some bling, of course. Trimmed down the card base. And wrapped some red/white bakers twine around our card three times and tied into a bow to finish this fiery red beauty.

And there you have a couple of ideas of monochromatic cards!
