Our theme for October is...
Anything BUT a card... OMGoodness! What to make?
As usual, my biggest challenge is deciding "what" to use.

Follow along as I continue with my "New Years Resolution" to use Unity stamps I haven't ever used before.
So far, I've done it every month this year and it's been great to use these stamps and show them some love!

I combined a few of my favorite things, like patterned paper, ribbon, embellishments, and heat embossing.
Here's what I came up with...

Today's Project: A Winter or Holiday Tag

It's really hard NOT to make a card, so I focused on tags, as the holiday season is soon upon us. I knew I wanted to make something blue and silver, as it's one of my favorite combos. And I can't believe I haven't used this beautiful stamp before either, but here we are... finally using it!
I kept things simple for mass producing tags, by using this amazing watercolor pattern paper pad that comes in many colors. I stamped the image with clear ink and heat embossed with this stunning silver metallic embossing powder.
I didn't add a sentiment, as I'm not sure what kind of tag it's going to be. It could be for somebody's winter birthday, a holiday gift tag, or add a "thank you" on orange paper for a Thanksgiving hostess gift tag or red/green for Holiday Hostess too. It's very versatile.
I framed each layer with these fabulous Scallop & Rectangle dies by Unity. They aren't just for cards, as they work here for tags too. I finished up with a few different ribbons and embellishments for some more sparkle. What do you think???

Creative Impressions white snowflake brad (I cut off the prongs and used glue dots to hold in place, but a hot glue gun would work here too)

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, wear your pink, think pink, and show your support for the survivors and spread awareness to all your favorite women and men. Early detection can save lives! I continue to support Breast Cancer Research #BCR in honor of my little sister, Karla, who lost her battle at 46yrs old.

Polka Dot Orchard + A True Classic Truck Card

Hi everybody! August is here, it's hot, and everything is blooming in the south. As some of you know, I have 4 kids: 1 daughter and 3 sons. So there is always A LOT of talk about cars and trucks at our house. New, used, vintage, you name it. So, when I saw this classic truck image, it got me thinking, how cute it would be to add some flowers to the back too! Like he was making flower deliveries back in the good ol' days.

I used 'A True Classic & Whoops A Daisy' digital stamp sets on today's project, illustrated by my talented crafty friends, Jeanie and Crystal for ==> Polka Dot Orchard!! They are great sets for many occasions. Be sure to check out all the wonderful stamps at PDO!

Let's get started...
Tutorial: I started with a piece of 8.5x11" kraft cardstock, cut in half, and folded for an A2 (4.25x5.5") card base. And cut a piece of scrap teal patterned paper 4x5.25" and adhered to the card base. Then cut a piece of scrap striped patterned paper 3x5.5" and adhered across the center of the card.

Now let's work on the image. The wonderful thing about these digital stamps is that you can resize them. So, if you make A2 cards, 6x6" square, 5x7", or Slimline, bigger, smaller, etc...you can.
I use a FREE WPS Office document program to copy and paste digital images to be able to layer, move images around, group, and resize them. I love layering and creating scenes. And it’s so fun and easy to do with digital stamps.

Next I copied and pasted the truck, the bunch of flowers 3 times, and a sentiment all on the same 8.5x11" sheet. Line them up and resized them. Once I had the images where I wanted them, I grouped them as one piece, saved it, and renamed as a “new” document in the same file as my original stamp set(s), to print and use again for future use.
Then I printed my image on my HP inkjet printer using alcohol friendly white cardstock, because I'm coloring with alcohol markers today.

I used these alcohol marker colors and fine tip sharpies shown below on the truck and flowers. And kept the coloring fairly simple. I used one color per area and went over some areas 2-3 times for more darker shading. And added just a touch of rust here and there with a blending brush and distress oxide ink, because it is a vintage truck.

Once I finished coloring and blending, I took out my die cutting machine, cut out the truck image with a stitched oval die, and adhered to center of card.

And cut out the sentiment with a slimline die and trimmed the ends with scissors. Tip: I LOVE using my slimline die sets with sentiments, because it makes them thinner and straight too! Then adhered sentiment to a scrap piece of yellow cardstock, trimmed to fit, and adhered to card.

Next I adhered a scrap piece of aqua ric rac ribbon down the left side of the card with liquid glue. Then adhered a tiny button on top of the ribbon with a glue dot. And added a smidge of shine to the truck's chrome pieces and center of tires with clear glitter pen to finish this classic beauty!

Here is a closer look at all that sparkle on the chrome, lights, and tires. And a view of the pretty flowers too!

Our theme for August is... Sympathy!
This is a hard theme to create for, but very meaningful and it's easier to have some made in advance. Some of you know, I lost my little sister to breast cancer, almost 3yrs ago. It was devastating to my family, but the thoughtful cards we received really touched our hearts and I still have them. Thank you!
Because I care, I urge you to get a mammogram early! No matter how old you are, get a base line for your medical history. And don't wait for October either. Just do it now! It could save your life! xoxo

Sympathy cards are hard to make, at times, but they don't have to be the traditional black, white, or gray, even though those are very elegant. I chose to design three different styles with non-traditional colors to give you some ideas that don't take a lot of time or supplies to send your condolences.

Let's get started!
Card #1 has a traditional sentiment on vellum and a pretty light blue lacy embossed panel with some simple embellishments.

Tutorial: I started with an 8.5x11” piece of kraft cardstock, cut in half, which makes two A2 cards. I took one half and folded to make an A2 card base. I started by stamping and heat embossing just the kraft card base, but thought it was too dark for this theme and I wanted to keep it soft and light. So I’ll save that piece for another day. I took the other A2 kraft half I already cut and that will be our card base. I cut and trimmed a light blue piece of cardstock ¼” smaller than our card base. Card #2 uses a thoughtful heat embossed sentiment among this beautiful floral on pretty shades of blue papers and coordinating embellishments.

Tutorial: I started with an 8.5x11” piece of turquoise cardstock, cut in half, which makes two A2 cards. I took one half and folded to make an A2 card base. Because using color on Sympathy cards is ok...really! I personally don’t make them bright, but some color is ok. It’s the thought that counts! Next I cut a piece of plaid patterned paper 3x5.5” and using a die cutting machine, and an edge die, I cut the right side and adhered to the card base. Using my original MISTI, white cardstock, and Memento tuxedo black ink, an alcohol marker friendly ink/cardstock, I stamped this gorgeous floral stamp twice to get a good impression. It’s one of my all time favorite flower stamps. Click or hover on each picture below for more directions…

Card #3 uses pretty coordinating papers and colors in a non-traditional way, with a gorgeous center floral, a heat embossed sentiment, with simple embellishments too!

Tutorial: I started with an 8.5x11” piece of green cardstock, cut in half, which makes two A2 cards. I took one half and folded to make an A2 card base. Next I cut two pieces of coordinating Unity patterned paper 3.75x5.5” and adhered to the card base. Using my original MISTI, white cardstock, and Memento tuxedo black ink, an alcohol marker friendly ink/cardstock, I stamped another beautiful floral stamp twice to get a good impression. Growing in Unity Blog Hop 2020 + (2) Giveaways!!!

Hi everybody! Thanks for joining us for the Growing in Unity Blog Hop! If you followed my GIU week back in April 20-25, 2020, then you know I LOVE many Unity flower stamps. And if you didn't, you can catch up and see my whole week: (click here for details).

For today's project I chose to carry on that floral theme with a lovely sunflower stamp set and a few of my favorite things to share with you. I'm still figuring out what I like to color with and played around and combined a few products for this look.
Sit back, relax, grab your favorite beverage, and hop along with us today for some amazing inspiration from these talented ladies! I promise...this Hop is short and sweet and SO worth it!

Tutorial: I started with an 8.5x11” piece of 110lb white cardstock, folded in half, as my card base (not shown). Cut a piece of red/white checkered patterned paper 6x5 ¾” and adhered to the card base.Trimmed down the top of the white card base to 6.” I took out a bin of scraps and used them on this card too. I took a brown scrap piece of cardstock and trimmed it down to 2x5 ¾” and adhered to the card. Took a scrap piece of yellow polka dot patterned paper and die cut a wavy scalloped edge using a die cutting machine, trimmed to fit, and adhered to the brown cardstock. Using a MISTI stamping tool, I stamped the sunflower five times, in Versafine Sepia brown ink, on white cardstock to resemble a pretty field of blooms. And stamped the sentiment from the same stamp kit, using the same ink too! Click the pictures below or hover over for more directions...

Our theme for this months Blog Hop is...Autumn Colors!!!
I love all holidays, but Autumn is my favorite time of year with all the leaves changing colors, pumpkin spice everything appears, and we have lots of family birthdays to celebrate too! So, that means...I make A LOT of cards!
This month I was inspired by the 200 foot trees in the park by my house. And I kid you not, they are really that tall and surround our neighborhood too. I took this picture last Autumn when the trees were full of all the colors of autumn and it was magnificent.

So because this is my favorite time of year, I couldn't help myself and made a few cards with some old and new to me techniques to share with you all!

My 1st card I knew I wanted lots of leaves and color with ink smooshing, alcohol markers, and die cuts on a fairly large card.

My 2nd card I used masking, ink blending, and distress micro glaze techniques on a layered card with die cut frames.

My 3rd card is similar to my 2nd card with masking, ink blending, and distress micro glaze techniques on a layered card with die cut frames, but slightly different with a mix of Autumn patterns and colors.

American Crafts Spring Birthday Card

Happy Spring! I hope it's warming up where you are. We had 4" of snow just two days ago and today it's mostly melted, warm, and sunny. But it will snow again...that's just what it does in Colorado. It's also the day after my daughter's birthday, so I can share with you the card I made her. I wanted it bright and happy for Spring and this Amy Tangerine collection really delivered. I love this modern look with a retro a twist with the mod shapes and cassette tapes.

First adhere the pink and yellow pattern papers to a card base. Punch out nine label shapes from four sheets of pattern paper, run through a sticker maker, and adhere to card. I layered two ribbons on top of this cool pink burlap ribbon. Add flower embellishments, enamel dots, music note stickers, and the "sweet life" sticker in the middle. And another card with NO stamping. ~Kim

Holiday Thank You Cards

Thank you for all your kind words and support these past years I've been blogging and creating online. I truly appreciate it! I always make my own cards and send it homemade from the heart. A phone call or an email is fine, but my mother and grandmother always hand wrote thank you cards and I've always carried that tradition onto my kids. So, I have them each write a few sentences to thank everybody for their presents. Do you make your own thank you cards after the Holidays or do you get a box from the store? Whichever way, it's important to say "thank you."

Thinking of you...always...is a sentiment I like to use a lot. I try to make a bunch of these all occasion cards throughout the year, because something always comes up and I need a card. I made this card with just a few embellishments and scraps. Do you save scraps? How do you store your scraps? What do you do with yours? I've seen some fancy storage and organization ideas on Pinterest, but I just have a bin full of pattern paper scraps in no particular order, but it's in one place. So, every couple months I grab it and make cards from the scraps. Use what you've got, right?

Happy Birthday, Mom! Yes, my parents are two days apart, just like my lil' sister and me. I know, I told you, Fall is crazy busy filled with birthdays. And as many of you know, I rarely get to make pink cards, as my daughter loves purple, and I have three sons and a hubby at home. So, when I came across this pattern paper I just knew I had to make another "quilt" card in pink and black and frilly for my mom. I just love pink and black together. Don't you? It's so classic and gorgeous for any occasion...

Paper Girls Guest Designer-Challenge 2

I am so excited and honored to be the guest designer this month for:
The Paper Girls Challenge #88 Sept 21 - Sweater Weather

Who’s ready for sweater weather? I love this time of year when the leaves are changing, the air is getting cooler, pumpkin is everywhere, and you start seeing the patterns of the season. And we have a lot of Fall birthdays in my family, so you will see a lot of birthday cards in the coming months. This week I was inspired by the plaid sweaters you see this time of year and created this card with my sister, Tami, with NO stamping. None!
I know, right? We were stunned too! LOL
We started with a red card base and a square punch (one inch or 1.5").
And punched out our squares from three different pattern papers from the same coordinating 6x6 pad: green, brown, and plaid. Then ran them through the Xyron sticker maker, cut the squares in half, and adhered them to another square. Layered the squares in a pinwheel quilt pattern to a larger red square and adhered to a larger brown square to create a frame or a double matte. Add some colored adhesive pearls for some shine, add buttons, bakers twine, and a tag sentiment. And you have a great masculine card or a neutral card for Fall, Christmas, or any occasion.
Plaid isn't just for the holidays!

Square Punch; Adhesive pearls; Doodlebug buttons; AC bakers twine;
Pebbles banner sentiments; Glue dots; and a Xyron 1.5 sticker maker

Fall is in the air and I'm seeing pumpkin stuff, apples, and sunflowers. I just love seeing all the sunflower fields in August, don't you? Rows and rows of gorgeous vibrant color inspired me to share this precious card I made with NO stamping. Really! I used to be intimidated by busy pattern paper or those papers that have a complete scene on them. They're just too pretty to cut or cover up with pictures. So, what do you do with them? Well, hopefully this tutorial will help you...

25th Birthday Card

My daughter turned 25yrs old last week...yes...it's true! It's hard to believe that a quarter of a century has gone by. So, I wanted to share with you the lovely 25th birthday card I made for her to commemorate this grand day! She was born on the first day of Spring, it was 70 degree's that day and snowing 10 days later. Twenty five years later it's the same weather. It was warm and sunny last week and snowing today. That's Spring in Colorado!

6 Cards From One Sheet

Do you sometimes need cards fast? Do you make thank you cards? Come see how I took one 12x12 sheet of pattern paper and turned it into six "thank you" cards. I learned from my Mom and my Grandmother at a young age that it's important to take the time to thank people with a written note. I still do that, usually with a handmade card. I have since passed that etiquette down to my four kids and hope they carry it onto their children. Yes, sometimes they moan and groan (as 3 of them are boys), but I hope they are learning why gratitude is important.

Once you have all your card fronts attached you can add little touches. I added some sparkle on the center trees with a glitter pen. Added some flower embellishments to keep it kind of flat for mailing. Stamp sentiment on the outside and inside. In one hour or less you can have six cards made in no time. I had to make more than six cards so I used a few sheets from the matching MME 6x6 paper pad too. If you pick really detailed pattern paper, this makes it look like it took you a week to stamp it all. I always look for a deal on my craft products and usually save 50% or more on whole collections, so everything matches. Holiday Treat Box

A treat box for any occasion, right at your fingertips, even your kids will be excited to help too! Punch out nine circles with a 3" scallop circle punch and fold each circle in half. Take two circles, match them up, glue dot each side ( I used about 3 glue dots on each side), and repeat until you have a complete circle. You could use staples or eyelets and thread ribbon to hold the circles together too. Take your last circle, which will be the bottom circle, and hot glue your attached circles around the bottom edges and place on the bottom circle for stability. Hold in place until it cools and add "thanks" stickers. I added a sandwich baggie full of treats, tied a metallic ribbon around it, and added a gift card for one of my kids teachers. And there you have a fast, little project for Halloween treats, thank you gifts, holiday gifts, and so much more!

Halloween Scrapbook Page

I LOVE Halloween so much I created an album just for scrapbooking our Halloween Memories. I created this page from some of my favorite things and favorite papers. I started with a 12x12" piece of kraft cardstock as my base. I used another piece of kraft cardstock, border punched the edge, backed it with purple cardstock, and adhered to the base page. Then layered several printed papers that all coordinated together and border punched down the left and right sides. I like how the colors, swirls, and edge punches all coordinate together.

I drew inspiration from the colors in my kids costumes and added a double matted border around their picture and adhered to the page. Added diamond rub-ons to the bottom right side that matched the colors on the page. Wrapped the page with black twine that resembled a spider web.

Flowers aren't just for Spring and Summer anymore, as I embellished with a flower die cut to create a "spooky" embellishment by using Halloween printed paper. Cut 3-4 flowers out and layer each flower with black mini pop dots for added dimension, add layered buttons, and adhered to the page with glue dots.

Stamp sentiment "OCT" on an office tag or die cut tag, heat emboss, ink edges, and wrapped with black twine, and adhere to page. I love ribbon, buttons, and gems. So I had to add them to this scrapbook page too. I cut several different ribbon pieces, scraps would work too, that coordinated with this page and adhered them to the office tag, added layered buttons, and adhered with glue dots. Add a sticker over the bottom ribbon for an extra title and added gems for some sparkle. I find glue dots work the best for adhering ribbon, buttons, and gems. I hope I have inspired you to make something "spooky" of your own. ~Kim
