In honor of my mother-in-law I thought I'd share her birthday card with you. Yes, her birthday is today, on Halloween. Isn't that cool? I just love making her a card every year, because she loves everything Halloween. And I do too! So, I can really be creative and have fun with her cards...
Happy Halloween! What are you doing tonight? Are you going out or staying in? My kids are dressing up and I'm taking them out trick or treating. I'll probably put on my witches hat and tag along. Then we'll watch some semi-scary movies, eat popcorn, and probably some candy too.

Happy Fall Y’all! I LOVE-LOVE-LOVE this time of year when all the leaves change colors and the elk and moose come out in abundance. I made this wonderful card for my design team Eat Cake Graphics. This incredible stamp is one whole piece and reminds me of my gorgeous Rocky Mountains with it's shimmery snow capped mountains, green pine trees, and the moose...
We all have pets that pass away and it's heartbreaking. So, it's nice to let our friends and family know we are thinking of them. I made this adorable card for my parents when their dear dog "Abbie" passed away. I started with a kraft colored card base and added a few pet stickers. I layered the dog house and paw prints on yellow and teal cardstock, trimmed them out, and adhered to card. I stamped a sentiment on yellow cardstock, trimmed it out with postage stamp decorative scissors, and added a little bling with a clear sparkle pen. I created a little sign from red/cranberry cardstock and stamped "Abbie" from a mini alphabet stamp set, double layered, trimmed it out, and adhered to the dog house. Then, from the same stamp set, I stamped the letter "A" to the dog collar, and added a gem to personalize the card. Added some natural jute ribbon to complete this simple, but thoughtful card. And you too can create handmade cards from just a few stamps.
I entered this card in a challenge: Little Red Wagon: Challenge #312 - Home is where the heart is! The Craftys celebrate the best in DIY and crafts across the United States. It launched on Sept. 1st and will broadcast livestream on November 6, 2015 from San Francisco, CA. Hosted by PBS’ crafting guru, Mark Montano, The Craftys is positioned to become the ultimate prize for crafters in many different medias, including categories that span from traditional crafts such as knitting, sewing and scrapbooking to “street art," jewelry, so and more. Please vote for and "My Kraft Kloset" which has been nominated in the "paper crafts/scrapbooking" category, but I have also submitted in the "craft blogger" and the "DIY Pinterest Board or Instagram" categories too.
Thinking of you...always...is a sentiment I like to use a lot. I try to make a bunch of these all occasion cards throughout the year, because something always comes up and I need a card. I made this card with just a few embellishments and scraps. Do you save scraps? How do you store your scraps? What do you do with yours? I've seen some fancy storage and organization ideas on Pinterest, but I just have a bin full of pattern paper scraps in no particular order, but it's in one place. So, every couple months I grab it and make cards from the scraps. Use what you've got, right?
Happy (almost) Halloween! Do you make Halloween cards? I do sometimes, as it's one of my favorite holidays and I have TONS of Halloween stamps. But I have LOTS of birthdays between September and April that I make birthday cards for. So I don't usually have time to make any, but I did squeeze in this lovely spooky card.
I love creating one of a kind backgrounds and this one definitely reminded me of a spooky night with the fog creeping in. I recommend using a watercolor paper when using watercolor inks, markers, crayons, pencils, or blending with water. Because it's absorbent, it won't buckle, or pill when you are blending or adding more water... Even though it’s Fall where I am, we are having an Indian Summer with 70-80 degree weather. I can't complain, because it's NEVER like this. Even in Colorado where we can have all four seasons in one day. It's still rare. But I won't hold my breath...it's almost always cold, rainy, or snowing on Halloween and I still take my kids trick or treating. But for a few more weeks we can go outside and enjoy the mountains, beach, or a lake.
So, because of this wonderfully warm weather I was inspired to make this card to remember the days of being at the beach, gathering seashells, and dreaming of mermaids. Or getting in a few more warm lazy days. I received all these precious shells and beads from my Mother-in-law and adhered them with glossy accents, as it dries clear. I knew I wanted to use the shells with this adorable Eat Cake Graphics mermaid stamp... Happy Birthday, Mom! Yes, my parents are two days apart, just like my lil' sister and me. I know, I told you, Fall is crazy busy filled with birthdays. And as many of you know, I rarely get to make pink cards, as my daughter loves purple, and I have three sons and a hubby at home. So, when I came across this pattern paper I just knew I had to make another "quilt" card in pink and black and frilly for my mom. I just love pink and black together. Don't you? It's so classic and gorgeous for any occasion...
Happy Birthday, Dad! As promised, lots of Fall birthday cards coming your way! Not that you can tell from this picture, but I started with a kraft colored card base. I painted a strip of the top and bottom of the card and a button with a gold paint pen. To make it shimmer like Fall.
On a piece of white cardstock I stamped one of my favorite SU (retired) leaf stamps, from the Fall Whimsy set. Sorry, gotta use what you have. But you can still find this set online. I combined the leaf stamp with a script stamp from Penny Black, and a sentiment stamp, to create this unique stamped image layered upon a one of a kind watercolor background. See complete instructions for this stamping, masking, and watercolor techniques in the Autumn 2015 issue of CardMaker Magazine. Supplies: Kraft and white cardstock; Carta Bella Autumn 6x6 pattern paper pad; Krylon gold paint pen; Stampin up stamps-Fall Whimsy (retired); Doodlebug button; twine; Versamark clear ink; Orange embossing powder (Ranger or Zing); Tim Holtz mini dye ink pads: rusty hinge, dried marigold, scattered straw; and glue dots.
